In 2015, Jet Blue announced that it would start their daily nonstop service of flights into Barbados. But, according to an article published in Forbes, Jet Blue is sharing the wealth with AA. BTMI is pushing to fortify ties with American Airlines, which will bring more globetrotters to the Barbados during low as well as the shoulder season.
Currently, American Airlines flies from Charlotte to Grantley Adams Airport on Weekends.
The shakeup is amicably significant for AA including Barbados. The additional flights will create extreme opportunities for tourist who get cabin fever during cooler climates, prompting them to hit the Caribbean’s from December until April 2019.
American Airlines controls 90 % of air-traffic in Charlotte. It will add a third nonstop flight from Charlotte to Nassau, Bahamas. The seasonal flight will commence on December 19. In addition, American Airlines is slated to increase access from Charlotte to Barbados with daily seasonal flight service effective December 19.

Additional capacity out of Miami and Charlotte showcase airline’s commitment to Barbados’ ambitious U.S. growth program
American Airlines, the largest airline carrier in the United States, has unveiled extended winter capacity from hub cities Charlotte and Miami to Barbados through its 2019 summer core flight schedule. Daily service out of Charlotte will run from December 19, 2018 – April 2, 2019 and from June 6 – August 19, 2019. There is Saturday only service from April 3 – June 5, 2019 and November 3 – December 18, 2019. Connecting flights are available Aug 20 – Nov 2, 2019. Thrice daily service will run from Miami from December 19 – April 2 and June 6 – August 19, 2019. Twice daily service will operate at all other times. This will deliver an increase of almost 50 percent capacity from April 2 through to August 20 and will assist Barbados in reaching new visitation milestones from the U.S. – the nation’s top growth region globally. “We are extremely pleased to see that American Airlines has continued its commitment to growing its capacity to Barbados well into 2019 and continues to help us in surpassing the tremendous visitation figures seen during the past few years,” said the Hon Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Tourism and International Transport. “In 2017, Barbados welcomed 188,970 U.S. visitors and we anticipate surpassing 200,000 visitors from the U.S. in 2018 – improving on last year’s already significant 30-year record.” “This investment in Barbados is not something that we take lightly as we know that there are several other destinations which are eager for additional lift so we will be immediately implementing a very targeted promotional program to ensure that we stimulate the demand for this capacity,” Symmonds said. 2019 will usher in a variety of leisure experiences meant to engage the nation-wide spectrum of American Airlines travelers. 2019 will also be known as the ‘Year of Wellness and Soft Adventure,’ an effort meant to draw attention to the island’s diverse healthy lifestyle experiences. It will also bring forth the return of Barbados’ Wellness Festival in August. “This year we’ve continued strengthening our route network out of Barbados, launching additional weekly frequencies to better connect our customers flying between Grantley Adams International Airport and our hubs in Miami and Charlotte. With these new year-round additions that we announced today for Barbados, which include an additional daily flight from Miami and our weekly Charlotte flight becoming daily, we will now operate four daily flights to Barbados year-round – our most robust schedule to date,” said Alfredo Gonzalez, Managing Director – Caribbean, American Airlines.
