OWN Spotlight documentary WE BELONG HERE: THE STORY OF TEAM DREAM premieres on OWN, Saturday, September 26 at 9PM ET/PT.

WE BELONG HERE: THE STORY OF TEAM DREAM chronicles the remarkable journey of 12 Black women who, in 2018, came together with limited practice, and an unwavering belief in one another to compete in the USA Volleyball Open National Championship. Led by NCAA champion Haley Eckerman, this group of players united and realized they were making history as the first all-Black women’s professional volleyball team.  In a sport where representation was still limited, these athletes shattered expectations and made history, proving that the volleyball court can be a powerful stage for change.

Told entirely through the voices of the women themselves, with no external narrator, WE BELONG HERE: THE STORY OF TEAM DREAM is a story of triumph. The film honors the athletes' resilience, joy, humor, friendship, and pride, while acknowledging the systemic barriers they faced. At its heart, it is a story about determination, community, and the power of belonging.

"Team Dream's origin story is a powerful reminder of what happens when Black women step into their strength together," said Tina Perry, President, OWN. "The way these women united shows their power, their joy, and their unwavering belief in one another, which embodies the spirit of OWN Spotlight. We can't wait for audiences to hear their story in their own words as we celebrate the legacy they started and continue to build."

WE BELONG HERE: THE STORY OF TEAM DREAM premiered at Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and debuts on OWN, Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 9pm ET/PT. The documentary is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, a Banijay Americas company, for OWN.
