To commemorate Black History Month, three local organizations teamed up to take 50 teenage males fro


ATLANTA, GA (February 9, 2018) To commemorate Black History Month, three local organizations have teamed up to take 50 teenage males from Southwest High School and Northeast Health Science Magnet High School in Macon, GA on a field trip to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, GA. This day-long trip will provide the students with the opportunity to learn the importance of the Civil Rights Movement and how it impacts their everyday lives. Attendees will be encouraged to discuss what they learned. Lunch will be provided and gift bags will be given to each teen. This event will be hosted at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, located at 100 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd NW in Atlanta, GA on February 23, 2018 from 9:30am to 5pm. “Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. This Chat & Chew field trip is to help these young men to gain a better understanding of themselves by showing them the struggles and the amazing accomplishments of African Americans in the Civil Rights Movement era.” Sheddrick Clark, CEO of 9 Entertainment About the Organizers The Urban CEO is a nonprofit organization whose vision is to serve as a catalyst and bride-builder that influences culture and provides solutions to community renewal, development and empowerment. It was established in 2011. 9 Entertainment is an entertainment company, headquartered in Macon, GA, that is known for their soul-stirring plays, concerts and themed parties, serving African Americans and consumers of Black culture since 2005. The company has a long history of giving back to the community and as such, has been organizing these types of events since its inception. Unity-N-Community Inc’s mission is to improve and provide tools of change and growth for youth & families who face challenging issues in an effort to increase their chances of being successful. The organization was established in 2004. About the Sponsor The Middle Georgia Center for Academic Excellence is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to expanding college and postsecondary education opportunities for low-income and potential first generation college students. Established in 2002, it provides assistance to 1,250 middle and high school students, annually, through Federal TRIO Programs (Talent Search and Upward Bound) designed to help students overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education.
